Dubai Residence Visa for Child: Salary, Requirements and How to Apply

Parents living and working in the UAE can bring their children to the country on residence visas, as long as they meet set income, housing, and documentation requirements. Under current family sponsorship rules, a parent’s profession is no longer a deciding factor. For Dubai residents, applications are handled by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai).

Both fathers and mothers holding valid UAE residence permits may qualify. The guide also outlines eligibility rules, required paperwork, and expected costs for families planning to apply.

Who Can Sponsor a Child in the UAE

Salary and Housing Requirements

Sponsoring parents must earn a minimum monthly salary of either:

  • AED 4,000, or
  • AED 3,000 plus accommodation provided by their employer

Parents must also have suitable housing for their family. They need documents proving their relationship to the child.

Eligible Children

Residents can generally sponsor sons under 25, unmarried daughters of any age, and children with special needs of any age. Family members aged 18 and above must also meet medical fitness requirements.

Working Mothers Can Apply

Mothers in Dubai can sponsor their children if they meet the requirements. Unlike older rules, the general criteria no longer limit sponsorship to specific professions such as medicine, nursing, engineering, or teaching.

However, GDRFA Dubai still lists a no-objection document from the father when the mother is the sponsor. In cases of divorce, separation, or the death of a parent, extra proof of custody or guardianship may be needed. Mothers in these situations should confirm requirements with GDRFA Dubai or an authorized Amer service centre before applying.

Documents Required

Applicants should prepare the child’s passport (valid for at least six months), a recent photo, and an attested birth certificate. They should also prepare the parent’s passport and residence details, a salary certificate or employment contract, and an attested marriage certificate when required. Proof of accommodation, such as a registered tenancy contract, is also needed. Documents issued outside the UAE may need attestation or translation.

How to Apply Through GDRFA Dubai

The Five Steps

  1. Prepare all supporting documents.
  2. Submit the entry visa application online or at an Amer centre.
  3. Pay the applicable fees.
  4. Complete the medical test, if required, and Emirates ID procedures.
  5. Receive the residence permit and check its details.

The 60-Day Window

A family entry visa gives parents 60 days after the child enters the UAE to complete residency requirements. Finishing within this period helps families avoid immigration penalties.

What It Costs

GDRFA Dubai lists an entry visa fee of AED 200. Further charges may apply for Emirates ID, residence processing, medical testing, and service centres. Applying while the child is already in the UAE may cost more. Parents should review the final amount in the official system before paying. Checking the latest requirements first can help families avoid rejected applications and unnecessary expenses.
